A beautiful coastal township in northern Tairāwhiti

Wharekahika/Hicks Bay is situated between Potaka and Te Araroa along State Highway 35. Along this stretch of paradise, discover a beautiful bay for swimming, enchanting waterfalls, swimming holes, a glowworm grotto and the remains of the old freezing works near the wharf (now very popular for fishing).

In town, there is a general store with fish n chips for takeaways, a post office, and the local marae Hinemaurea ki Wharekahika.

Full of country charm and hospitality and perched above the bay, Hicks Bay Motel Lodge offers fantastic accommodation options complete with a restaurant and bar offering delicious meals and spectacular vistas of the Pacific Ocean.
