Home to Poverty Bay Golf Club, founded in 1893, Awapuni Links is one of Aotearoa’s oldest and most underrated courses - the fifth oldest in the country and second oldest in the North Island. Set on mellow coastal dunes just minutes from the centre of Gisborne, it’s pure links golf with a laid-back East Coast spirit.
The sandy base keeps it firm and fast all year, with rolling fairways, sea breezes, and plenty of fun for all levels.
It’s hosted some of the game’s greats - including multiple New Zealand Amateur Championships - but still welcomes everyone with a smile. The only dress code: no gumboots, no jeans, no singlets. Just surfy vibes, lively locals, and 18 holes of championship pedigree wrapped into one unforgettable round on the first links to see the light.
